Client Situation
The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT) engaged Xello to procure and implement an identity and access management solution to help them improve their employee experience, operational lifecycle and security posture. At the time, GMCT leveraged an on-premise, traditional solution with limited integration across services and largely manual processes. The business called for a modern approach that would enable simpler administration and automation capability, single sign-on across legacy and cloud applications for improved productivity and enhanced security controls.

Our Contribution
Xello demonstrated a thorough understanding of business requirements with a clear plan, based on experience and expertise, to implement GMCT’s Cyber Security initiative.
Xello used its repeatable Intellectual Property (IP) to de-risk project lifecycle. During the project, Xello “Owned” the delivery once selected as the vendor, from initiation to implementation and knowledge transfer, while GMCT continued to operate its core business.
During the process, Xello provided openness with GMCT staff about best practices and how this will benefit their employee experience and future-proofing operations. The end result was the delivery of a high-end, highly scalable and flexible Identity and Access Management solution from Okta, based on best-practice and effective governance.
Eliminated 50% of the operational effort when on-boarding staff and contractors through integrated and automated provisioning & de-provisioning steps.
Client Benefit
GMCT improved the employee experience for 100% of the workforce when accessing business applications across various device types. The improvement was achieved by enabling single sign-on (SSO) for all eligible in-scope applications, making a significant step towards single usernames & passwords across the environment for all employees and contractors.
Along with the streamlined passwords use across the business, the integrated apps were made compliant with password policies and added MFA capability, reducing the risks from poor password behaviours.
The project eliminated 50% of the operational effort when on-boarding staff and contractors through integrated and automated provisioning & de-provisioning steps. This also included greater visibility by implementing centralised reporting, allowing GMCT to review all users and logins as an audit strengthening capability in the most efficient way possible.
Overall, this improved GMCT Cyber Security posture by integrating all eligible in-scope applications into the Okta solution.
